Dakota Youth Native Drum Circle (BOYS) (Gr.6-8)
Learn about the significance of the drum to Dakota and Anishinaabe! This after-school
program introduces students to the drum protocols and songs. Rooted in respect,
community, and cultural heritage, participants will learn the fundamentals of big drum
etiquette, singing, and rhythmic unison.
Guided by experienced cultural instructors, students will explore the drum's significance
as the central heartbeat of Mother Earth. Beyond learning traditional lead and response
songs, participants will build listening skills, confidence, and mutual respect while
discovering the historical and cultural contexts behind the music. The course creates a
welcoming, collaborative space for students boys to connect with indigenous music.
