Basic Garment Alteration Techniques
Darlene will demonstrate several basic sewing alteration techniques to help improve garment fit and adjust length. Bring your questions or a garment you would like to alter. Please do not bring a sewing machine. -
Beginner Adult Sewing Instruction
Start from the beginning and learn to use a sewing machine, thread the bobbin and machine, and learn about needles and fabric. We'll use a pattern to make a pair of pajama pants. Learn to cut out the pattern and fabric, sew and finish seams, insert elastic, and put up a hem. Note from instructor: Purchase a basic pajama pants pattern in your size (Butterick or Simplicity) and the fabric and elastic according to the pattern. Bring these to class along with your sewing machine, thread, scissors, and pins. -
Beginners Bridge Class
Never played bridge? Haven't played since college? Play occasionally but never quite seem to "get it"? If so, this may be your class! We will use Audrey Grant’s "Bridge Basics 1: An Introduction" (available from Layne, elvinje@charter.net, at a reduced price) and cover the basics of point count, bidding, play of the hand, and simple defensive strategies. You will meet other "novice" players and perhaps put together your own social bridge group. -
Beyond Beginning Bridge
This class reviews beginner basics and introduces bridge in competition using Audrey Grant’s Bridge Basics 2: Competitive Bidding. This book covers Preemptive Opening Bids, Overcalls and Advances, and Takeout Doubles and Advances. -

Ghost Hunting 201
So, you want to be a ghost hunter? In GH101 we learned the basics of simple investigations and were entertained with stories, photos, and actual EVP evidence. In GH201, we delve deeper into the context of paranormal investigating, including technique, research, and analysis. This presentation includes proper safety and protective measures as we look at the darker side of some haunted locations. The primary investigative subjects for this class will be The Villisca Ax Murder House (Villisca, Iowa) and the Lemp Mansion (St. Louis, Missouri). You will see actual video and hear real EVP's captured by the After-Hours Paranormal Investigations team. GH101 is a prerequisite. -

If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing can be a great winter blues buster. Come learn about the history of snowshoes and their construction, and how the design has evolved over time. Then strap on a pair of modern snowshoes for some guided practice. Cost includes instruction and the use of snowshoes.
