Lara/Larissa is a misfit in rural South Dakota—Half-Native, Half-White, weighed down by physical limitations—until a photo of Maria Tallchief introduces her to dance, which cracks her world wide open. Based on the author’s true story, Fancy Dancer is a rich, multigenerational experience that speaks to the power of storytelling and the beauty of finding your own community.
